:
A warm welcome to our new families.
The sun should be starting to appear more frequently so in this newsletter I have included information about why your child may be sensitive to bright light.
Sensitive Eyes
If your child has blue, green or grey eyes you may have noticed that they squint more when you look into the sunlight than people with brown eyes.
People with lighter coloured eyes have less pigmentation in multiple layers of the eye than those with darker eyes. Because of this, people with lighter eyes are more sensitive to harsh lights like sunlight and fluorescent lights.
This may cause your child to have difficulty seeing or focusing in bright lights, or even cause pain around the eyes. Squinting or rubbing their eyes in harsh light is generally a sign that you have a level of ‘photophobia’.
Avoid your child spending prolonged time in bright or harsh lighting, or wear UV-blocking sunglasses and wide brimmed hats when outside to help reduce the effects caused by sensitivity to light.
All optometrists have a range of prescription sunglasses available in store to ensure your child’s eyes are protected from harsh light while outside or encourage your child to wear sunglasses outside.
Staffing
We welcome back Mrs Brooke Switzer (formally Miss Neale) who will be working two days a week this term and then full time next term. We also welcome Miss Claire Olifiers who has joined our Learning Assistant team.
Thank you
During the past week we have noticed a reduction in the amount of children arriving late and/or leaving early. This has meant it is less disruptive to classes, teachers and the child’s learning
