At Pakuranga Heights School we offer a pre-school programme for childen who are 4 1/2 years old and whose parents have chosen Pakuranga Heights School for their childs future education. The programme is to help the children transition into the primary school setting the term before they start school.
Top Start is co-ordinated by our Junior School Deputy Principal and aided by a learning assistant. Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 12 students. The programme runs on a Wednesday afternoon from 2:00pm – 2:50pm, during term time for 8 weeks.
Each term there will be a theme that will be integrated to cover the following:
Literacy and Numeracy
- Alphabet – recognition of letters and sounds
- Writing opportunities
- Counting, shapes, proportions (math concepts)
Social Skills
- Development of routines
- Co-operative play
- Responding to expectation
The cost of the programme is $10.00 per session, which must be paid in advance.
