From the Principal
It is great to see the children respecting sun safe practices such as wearing hats or sunscreen. The weather is still changeable but it is definitely warming up so please continue to encourage your child to make use of the sun cream that is available in every class and bring a hat every day.
It is a busy time of the year as teachers’ are testing and analysing achievement and progress in preparation for writing your child’s school report.
Staffing News
We farewell Miss Priyanka Narayan, Mrs Rinloo Danny and Miss Evelyn Madurai at the end of this school year. Miss Jessica Hackett will be on leave for the 2024 year.
Mrs Brooke Switzer is on maternity leave for 2024. We wish her all the best.
Evelyn, Rinloo and Priyanka have been with our school for a number of years and feel it is the right time to have a change. We wish them all the best in their future careers and pathways.
We welcome Mrs Melanie Harper and Mrs Shirley Leong both experienced teachers and leaders. We also welcome Miss Amy Davidson, Miss Katie Bell, Miss Madeline Gray and Mrs Leanne van Reede.
Jump Jam News
Last weekend our Senior Jump Jam Team competed in the National Jump Jam Competition in Tauranga. The team performed their routine Crazy in Love to a packed audience and a panel of six judges.
The team was awarded Excellence in Presentation and Excellence in Technical Execution. The team were also awarded a Judges Choice Prize which was a new Jump Jam kit for the school.
Congratulations to the 10 girls who competed, you were outstanding! You have shown immense dedication and commitment attending training at morning tea, lunchtime, afterschool and the weekends in the lead up to the competition. Thank you to the supportive parents who accompanied us to Tauranga to cheer the team on.
New Classrooms Update
These classrooms are progressing well. We anticipate having them ready for the junior classes for the start of the year.

Book Parade
We are pleased to be able to celebrate reading with the return of the book parade this Friday. We ask that children come dressed as their favourite book character. Parents, caregivers and extended family are welcome to come and watch.
The intention is to have a full school parade under the Cloud starting at 9:15am. Significant rain may require a change to this plan and any changes of schedule will be sent out via Schoolzine and Facebook in the morning if required.
Please assist your child in organising a book character costume for the parade. The class competition will be judged by the teachers who will be looking for creative and imaginative costumes. The idea is not to hire or buy new costumes rather be creative with whatever you have already or can create.
Interschool Athletics
Athletics and Cross Country Fun For All
Schools throughout Aotearoa are reshaping their athletics and cross country events. This year, PHS will take our lead from Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ), which released a position paper suggesting that engaging students in athletics and cross country in creative ways can allow them to develop a broad range of physical and social skills, while positively impacting feelings of self-worth.
PHS cross country / athletics events will be replaced with a new event on Friday 8th December that aims to get all students engaged in physical education. The day will include a fun run, net crawls, water guns, bubbles, dancing, skipping and obstacle course. More details about timings will come out closer to the event but parents will be welcome to come and support students as they take part.
Term 4 has students school wide learning athletics skills at their appropriate age level within their sport rotations.
